A Simple Home Remedy Which Keeps You Healthy

By Rodger Bailey

I just read a new post by Dr Mercola which I thought you might like to know about.

He talks about the use of something (which is in most of our kitchen cabinets) as a health aid that has a history of successfully being use to prevent or reduce the impact of the swine flu and even cancer. It's Baking Soda!

Let me tell you a little more about this. I have been reading a lot about acidity, alkalinity, and health. There are many articles and a lot of research which shows us that our diet is causing our bodies to be too acid. The research tells us that being acid is unhealthy. It causes us to more easily contract diseases.

We are urged to change our diets and eat fewer of the things which causes our bodies to maintain acidity. I have had difficulty with this idea of changing my diet because I live in Uruguay and we still have a culture which is based on grass-fed beef. Our beef is some of the highest quality and most tender in the world. But, the research is telling us that eating beef is one of those things which causes our bodies to become more acid. I have resisted the idea of changing my diet, because I don't want to give up eating this great beef.

Now, this article from Dr Mercola tells me that if I take a half-teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water, every day, I'll cause my body to become less acid (become more alkaline), and this will improve my health. In all the articles I have been reading about the health benefits of becoming more alkaline, this is the first article I have read which talks about this simple way to change my pH balance.

Mercola talks about two different medical practitioners who have used baking soda to fight the swine flu in 1918 and 1919 and to fight cancer now.

So, I started today. I went to the kitchen and found our package of baking soda. I checked the expiration date to make sure it was still good and then I stirred a half-teaspoon into a glass of water and I drank it.

After you read the article, I hope that you do it too.

I recall reading an article about acidic blood on Qondio a few months back which explains why being acidic is bad: less oxygen is carried by the blood. So what you say may be true. But in the long run, if you value your health, you really ought to cut down on the red meat which is hazardous for a number of reasons. Perhaps limit steak to Sundays and forego it altogether during Lent?

Baking soda? Wow! My weakness is pasta, by I too love beef, especially a good steak.

However...everything in moderation as far as diet is concerned. Or so I hear. There's lots of theories out there, which makes it hard to decide on what's best.

I've seen many home remedies over my 74 years. The mustard plaster, baking soda in a tub of warm water to take the pain out of a sunburn, ginger tea to quench you thirst on a hot day and honey with sugar to stop the hick-ups to name a few. They all worked.
Great intel.

My grandmother use to give us baking soda in a cup of water to settle our stomachs when we felt ill and it always helped. I never knew it was suppose to help with other ailments! Thanks for this info! I still use it when I don't feel good! Stay well!

Baking soda dipped in diluted peroxide helps whiten teeth; however, I prefer natural sea salt and warm water to rinse my digestive system.

You can also get those antacid tablets that come in various flavors, usually fruit. I've been using those for years. It would make a big difference to acidity in general. Keeping healthy is a good idea, but you don't have to cut out locally produced good red meat to do it. What's better is to also eat some fresh vegetables and fruit along with it (or frozen, frozen is better than canned), whole grains vs. bleached flour, and prepare food at home vs. the stuff that gets packaged with a lot of extra sugar added. It's surprising to me how good our food tastes when my son in law started baking whole grain bread. He doesn't mix in white flour, I think he has to add more wet ingredients or something to make it rise properly and work. It comes out so tasty, with a rich nutty flavor, not bitter like store-bought "whole grain bread" where the whole grain flour mixes with white flour for a bitter taste.

I can see how blood acidity could be a problem. The thing is that some of it may come from stress and stomach acid problems as much as from what you eat. I tend to have problems with acidic foods, but red meat doesn't give me any problems.
